Grid computing

An interesting article about computing: Collision Course: Beating Moore's Law by 2006 will take teamwork. It's about CERN (the European nuclear physics lab & particle accelerator) utilizing grid computing, a type of distributed computing (combining cheap, less powerful computers to achieve power unparalleled by the largest, most expensive supercomputers).
In fact, when i visited Geneva last year and toured CERN, they showed us one of their huge computer labs where they had racks and racks of plain old Pentium PCs all strung together to analyze data. As the author of the article notes, they generate a lot of data... our peek at their storage system was mind-boggling.
